super interesting. Would love to see you branch out into some of those fun experiments from a while back.. the fargo rating of the ghost, or the spot shot. For example, can we pull data on 1-pocket games where the spot was one ball? I know there's not a ton of data to work from but there's a few high profile long races, can we determine the appropriate ball spot for x rating difference?
Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it a lot! In the chart for the control group, we expect its average rating to stay the same, but it actually went up by 15 points. I'm curious about if we plot a few more control groups to study this 5 year difference, e.g. take the players who were 750+, 700-749, and 650-699 five years ago, and observe the average trends. You could see that I'm assuming most people's game would probably plateau after reaching 650.
Please keep making these videos. I find them really interesting! Topic suggestions: 1. Does Fargo keeps top and bottom limits on rankings? For example, if competition keeps getting better each year, will we start seeing 900+ Fargo? 2. Why someone would have a negative Fargo? 3. Does the type of match you have played has any weight on how it affects one's Fargo? For example, matches registered from Salotto vs. leagues vs. tournaments. 4. Please keep Fargo ratings chart up-to-date. Seems outdated since it states there are fewer than 20 players worldwide with 800+ Fargo. As of today, there are clearly more than 60 players worldwide with +800 Fargo.
This is really clever. Thanks for posting!
I have a question. On power shots the balls always hop, so it is possible that the strip stayed stationary because the ball didn't contact it at all after the hit, right? So this doesn't conclusively disprove the hypothesis
Consider that it is impossible to shoot with that much speed and eccentricity and not jump the ball. You can test this by putting a dime or quarter in front of the cueball snd shoot with a firm stroke. Ball will jump slightly because of the downward "deflection" caused by the being struck above center. Correct me if I'm wrong.
15 years ago😢still useful now
hi mike, im assuming it's a random rack for each rack? also.... what's stopping sandbaggers achieving a low fargo rate in person, then going into tournaments and winning? how does fargo rate compare my 'fargo score' to my 'play score' in an actual game?
KISS KISS! THANK YOU, for keeping it simple and to the point, without all the DRAMA and music, etc. The Best intro to basic etc video, of any topic, I have watched. (Note, Retired OLD VETERAN, so I watch to many videos. LOL)
Why do you sound like your under water? Wow, no wonder pool has a bad name!

A PERFECT TEACHER
Well I am surprised that I didn't see this. I agree that the calcuttas gives a lot of information about who the "smart money" thinks is above the cap. We did have several players who have been above 600 and they indeed went for thousands above the four finalists. I won't say they are sandbaggers just that they all previously were higher than 600. The vast majority of players was indeed playing at what I expect a 600 and below to play. Still it was nerve racking to go through and try to analyze each person's rating especially when they didn't share their matches. The requirement to share matches though led to at least one withdrawal when a player had a profile under a different name and the other profile had them rated at around 700. Another person who tried to get in had two profiles and while both were under 600 one was unestablished. The minimum was 400 games and I had several players that were like 402 by the time the tournament went off. I don't know if they were at 400 when they signed up. I took over the event a week before it started. I am generally against capped events but I was amazed at the fact that 128 players showed up to put in 1000 each. That indicates a very strong desire to compete at that level with players in the same speed category. I think with the proper controls such as Jack Murray and others implement that these big money capped events can work without fear of being snapped off by sandbaggers. I was scared that the highest players in the calcutta would dominate or some unknown with 402 games would win and this discussion would look very differently. But fortunately that didn't happen and the players who won were all legitimately rated in my opinion. Thanks for the analysis and I wish that we tournament directors had more access to the type of analysis that you showed here. The combined results against higher rated players was very helpful. Thank you for all that you do. Fargo ratings are an incredible asset to the sport.
Sounds like there is a heartbeat during the image comes up with star and ABC in the picture

I am going to re-learn billiards after retiring from engineering, and spending 4 hours a day working fast food. I am in great shape for 85, so stand back and watch. Great video I am going to follow. Thanks!
😂
Perhaps the title should have at least used a question mark on the end. I know Nick, the winner of this tourney. He has played on at least one of my teams in Tucson that was played on 9' Diamonds. I welcome anyone interested to ask players from Tucson about Nick. I do not think you will find a single person with something bad to say about this young man. He has been improving for years through solid practice, competition, and soaking up knowledge form the local, more experienced players. You could not have found a nicer, more honest player in the field.
This was awesome. Thank you so much!! I wish all tutorial videos were this helpful and easy to follow.
This song makes my soul sing ..instantly happy... thank you sir from USA PA
Enjoyed it!
I have a question, when you do a foul the other player can put the ball whereever he wants or behind the 2 diamond and aiming towards the table? I have heard the 2 different things in videos
Bruh. This video is GREAT. To the point, no fluff, information you need to know. Bravo good sir.
Well done! Just what I needed - thank you!
😊😊😊😊😊😊

gather here if you are watching this in 2023
Absolutely great video! Went 3-1 for the first time playing pool thanks to this vid; definitely recommend!
Thank you, sir I think, you might be a gifted teacher and pool is not the only thing you teach.
The real question is why don’t you have different Fargo ratings for the different types of games like APA does? You should have a different Fargo for 8,9 and 10 ball. And hell, even one pocket should have a score.
Any standard pool hall you go to their 7 and 9 foot tables, have the same size pockets… for diamond the standard pocket size 4 1/4. Some places go with 4 7/8. and very few places have 4 1/8 pockets.
As an APA 7, I still come back to this video after many years to refresh my fundamentals and promote it to the beginner players on my team. Great , to-the-point instructional.
